St. Paul's Parish Leadership

Like every Episcopal Church, St. Paul's is guided by the pastoral direction and leadership of our Diocesan Bishop.

We are a part of the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane, and our Bishop is The Rt. Rev. Gretchen Rehberg.

You can learn more about the Diocese of Spokane and about our Bishop at the Diocesan webpage.

The Rev. David Sibley

Rector

As Rector, David's focus is on the work of discipleship and spiritual growth at Saint Paul's – and supporting the call of every member of Saint Paul's to be a disciple of Jesus not only in the church, but in every aspect of their daily lives.

A native of South Carolina, David holds a B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry from Furman University in Greenville, SC, and an M.Div. from The General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church in New York, NY; he is presently in a D.Min. degree program at the School of Theology at the University of the South: Sewanee. He is married to Emily, a native of Western Washington, and they have a young daughter.

In their free time, David and his family enjoy travel, camping, hiking, skiing, cooking, and home improvement projects. While Siena, their Lakeland Terrier, lives in their house, they are not foolish enough to proclaim themselves her “owners.” David is a sports fanatic – a rabid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Liverpool Football Club,  South Carolina Gamecocks, and Seattle Seahawks.

The Rev. Ann Howard

Deacon

As Deacon, Ann is focused on pastoral care within the congregation, spiritual formation, and the training of our Eucharistic ministers and Eucharistic visitors. After having lived across the world from the state of Georgia to the nation of Japan, she settled here in the northwest and has served with us as a Deacon since 1987. Formerly a hospice chaplain, Ann focuses on pastoral care and visitations and assisting with worship. A voracious knitter, Ann is also deeply involved with reading and writing poetry.

The Rev. Martha Hurlburt

Associate Clergy

St. Paul's is also blessed by the ministry of several clergy who have retired to Walla Walla. While each may have many different ways of expressing clergy retirement - whether assisting in small congregations or just sitting in the pew - our Associate Clergy generously help support our parish life, particularly if Fr. David is out of town. We are grateful for their gifts and ministries.

St. Paul's Vestry

Congregational leadership in The Episcopal Church is shared between clergy and lay people.

Each year, St. Paul's membership elects a class of two members to congregation's board of directors at the Annual Meeting. In church speak, this board is called the Vestry of the parish.

The Vestry are the spiritual leaders of the parish - responsible for discerning the mission to which God calls us as a church community, and aligning the work of the church to that discernment. The Vestry also serves as the fiduciaries and legal agents of the congregation, are the ultimate body responsible for property and legal affairs, and the relationship of the parish to its clergy.

The Vestry also takes a part in selecting the key officers of the parish, called Wardens. One is appointed by the Rector and confirmed by the Vestry, and another is elected directly by the Vestry. In addition, the Vestry elects a Treasurer and Clerk.

Parish Guilds

The life of the parish runs through four Guilds, each of which is composed of volunteers with responsibility for a specific part "making church happen." Each Guild contains at least one member of the Vestry, but any person is invited to get involved with shaping the ongoing ministry of the parish by participating in the guilds. Our guilds and their conveners are listed below.
